The Hexagon 06:09
Hopeful hum the hive’s hymns While honey drips from Mother’s limbs Six walls sequestering The lacerated crown atop her servant Tiny wings thundering silently In service to his lifeless queen Vision vivisected in a thousand directions But his eyes could see only her The killing light floods in As he trusts in his crumbing home But neither his steadfast devotion Nor her imploding womb could save him Gold glimmers the crystalline exoskeleton Still faithful sings the swarm Each abandoned by their purpose, Remain upright in the fervor of their work Still the time and the dust bear down Six legs point to the sky Crumpled over his trembling thorax Three crosses mark his hollow martyrdom Apostate brothers Die among the flowers With the sweetness of her tribute still on their arms While he in the hexagonal house of his maker He in the hexagonal house of his maker dies the same

Haven 01:33
A putrid gleaming betrays the weave the fabric of matter between the earth and me

Fetid 06:03
Suffocate us and always we return Lend yourself to us surrender to the swarm The rumor wind, Calm and copacetic epitaph my repulsion instinctual avulsion Embrace Empathetic This enclave is breathing whole entity entwined lies that I once believed When I saw only torment and smoke If you die here, you’ll be forever forgotten When seeped into the trees, You will feed our young Rejuvenate us After all life has learned Watch the way it was Crumble with time unborn The carcass wood Spells the forest’s way indifferent skin wisdom wearing thin Roots my feet in place What is it about them that beckons softly our fraught condemnation When knowledge changes like seasons If you return to your own, You will be erased They will not, they cannot Listen. They spend their end in reminiscence Seethe. Become. We are everywhere Breathe inside this rotten hollow Do they indulge like us? (Vagrant, embrace the swarm) Like the clockwork I left behind (Take on your shameless form) Millennia with moments to go (Before you are reborn…) Subsume Subsume Subsume Subsume

about

“The Killing Light” EP, Aterrima’s debut release through Mishap Records, presents two
allegories that explore insect colonies as microcosms of the relationship between nature
and man. In one, an unwitting human action leads to the colony’s demise. In the other, the swarm is content to watch and wait, knowing the human’s death will provide their nourishment. These stories are told through swaths of aurally-challenging death metal, black metal and progressive stylings that will perk the ears of those who enjoy Imperial Triumphant, Artificial Brain, Rolo Tomasi and Meshuggah."

What inspired the EP?

We are enthralled by the idea of "stigmergy", the ability for a distributed network of entities to coexist in harmony with little to no direct contact with one another. In other words, is there something that we as individuals can learn about individual existence inside of a larger body? The Killing Light highlights two distinct yet similar stories of insect colonies and attempts to draw parallels to human society.

about

Aterrima Boise, Idaho

Seeks to provide honest commentary on the relationship between humanity and the natural world.

This manifests in a fraught musical experience, as passages of calculated chaos, cerebral eccentricity and consonant serenity intertwine to create Aterrima’s distinctive form of blackened death metal.
